Solid Wood Mushroom and Dice Stool

Most small stools are apologetic about being furniture. These are not: one is a cube cut like a die, the other a rounded mushroom, and both are solid wood rather than veneer over board. They work as a shoe change seat by a door, extra seating pulled into a living room, or a low side table when nobody needs to sit down.

Construction is self contained and simple, with no adjustment mechanism, no rotation and no cushion to flatten or stain over time. That means there is nothing to loosen or replace, and the piece takes weight the way a block of timber does. The grain runs through the finished surface, so scuffs sand out rather than exposing a different material underneath.

Choose the cube for a graphic, geometric look, or the mushroom for something softer that reads as sculpture when it is not in use. Either one is compact enough for a hallway or a rented flat, and both are heavy enough not to skate across a hard floor when someone sits down. Wipe with a dry cloth and keep it out of standing water. Felt pads on the underside are worth adding if the floor is polished timber, and the seat will keep its finish for years with nothing more than an occasional wipe.
